Let me introduce myself.

Hello, I'm Dave Thomas of Gower Electrics.

I'm a sole trader electrician, that means that I will do all the electrical work myself rather than send in other people.

I've included my photograph so you will recognise me when I arrive.

Experience to trust.

I have been working in mechanical, then electrical engineering since 1967. That's a LOT of experience!

After Fords Motor Company, I worked in Spontex, Swansea until redundancy when it closed. After further mechanical and electrical experience, I decided to start my own company, Gower Electrics, in 2004.

What electrical work will I do?

Replace or repair light fittings, sockets and switches.

Extending your light circuit or ring main to allow you to add new sockets or lights.

Also other home electrical work, give me a ring on 522443 to discuss your requirements.

Also fault finding.

Sockets or switches not working properly?  RCDs  (the 'switches' on your consumer unit) constantly 'tripping' (or blowing fuses on your fuse box)?  No worries. I should be able to help and determine both the problem and what needs to be done to rectify it.  I find people often call me in AFTER another electrician has been unable to find out what is wrong!

Safety first.

I will work with consideration in your home, and ensure that your electrics are safe before I leave.

Costs & estimates.

I work within the area of Swansea and Gower. I will visit to give a free estimate, but please respect that I live in Killay. If you live a distance away, I may instead give a rough idea by phone of expected costs, and then confirm when I arrive, before carrying out the work.  What I have found with most clients, is that usually I will give you an estimate when I visit to see the job/s, and normally will carry out the work straight away whilst I am with you.

Contact me.

Frequently asked questions

What will you supply?

I usually provide all the 'usual' items, standard wall sockets, ceiling roses and all associated switches and cables. I always use 'slim-line' fittings. They only cost slightly more and give a much better finish.

Who buys the lights, switches, sockets etc.?

As explained above, I'll buy all standard fittings. You may decide you want some special switches... perhaps a different finish or colour. Metallic finishes are popular. In that case, you will choose as there are many available and everyone has their own preferences. Please check with me before buying whether certain eg switches are suitable for where you want them, and that they fit either the current back box (the part that sinks into the wall) or whether you need to also buy that unit.

All DIY outlets supply a good range.

Light fittings, in particular are very personal items.  Please choose and buy something that you like and will enhance your home.  I'll be pleased to offer help in what is suitable for the conditions.

How much disruption will there be?

Hopefully, very little.  Adding lights, switches, sockets is more difficult than replacing fixtures.   Usually I will need access to the cables running under floorboards or in attics in order to extend the circuit.  So, carpets may need lifting to get at flooring. Most sockets and switches with their associated cabling can be sunk (cut) into your walls. Such 'channelling in' produces dust, although I will keep it to a minimum.

Occasionally I may have to explain that the option of surface mounted sockets and switches (and their associated cables) will be a more realistic option. That's because electrical work CAN be very messy...see pic! Surface mounting may make the difference between no work for yourself or a rigorous spring-clean or even redecoration!

Looking forward to meeting you and working for you soon.
